Testing for Chronic Venous Insufficiency (USRR2012-05)

This activity will provide a comprehensive overview of testing for chronic venous insufficiency. The intent of this activity is to improve the learners' current competency through this comprehensive overview of testing for chronic venous insufficiency.

Target Audience

The content of this activity is designed to meet the needs of the following target audience:  phlebologists, general surgeons, vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, interventional cardiologists, vascular medicine practitioners, dermatologists, dermatologic surgeons, family practice and internal medicine practitioners, plastic surgeons, obstetricians and gynecologists, cardiologists, and any other healthcare professional currently or planning on treating patients with venous disease.

Learning Objectives

As a result of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  1. Obtain a comprehensive vascular history and perform precise venous mapping.
  2. Perform a comprehensive lower extremity venous examination, using proper techniques and protocols on patients with common and complicated venous disorders.
  3. Document all pertinent findings and suspected pathology.
  4. Recognize the main pitfalls in venous extremity ultrasound, and apply the technical and clinical pearls.
