Target Audience
The content of this activity is designed to meet the needs of the following target audience: phlebologists, general surgeons, vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, interventional cardiologists, vascular medicine practitioners, dermatologists, dermatologic surgeons, family practice and internal medicine practitioners, plastic surgeons, obstetricians and gynecologists, cardiologists, and any other healthcare professional currently or planning on treating patients with venous disease.
Learning Objectives
As a result of this activity the participant should be able to:
- Identify patient characteristics that make them at risk for developing complications after saphenous surgical interventions.
- Define the complications associated with high ligation and stripping of the saphenous vein.
- Outline appropriate management strategies for neurologic complications following saphenous thermal ablation.
- Outline appropriate management strategies and preventive measures for dermal injury following saphenous thermal ablation.
- Describe the role of prophylactic anticoagulation in saphenous surgical intervention.
- Recognize and differentiate the entities of deep venous thrombosis and endovenous heat induced thrombosis.
- Identify and outline appropriate management strategies for post ablation superficial thrombophlebitis.
- Recognize and discuss the presentations of unusual complications following saphenous vein treatments.
